The spices added to the fish just add so much flavor to this mild fish. It is so flavorful and pairs great with my roasted garlic green beans or any of your favorite side dishes.
This recipe is perfect for a quick healthy dinner on those busy nights when you need dinner quickly. This type of meal is truly my go-to in our home.
This air fryer grilled fish will impress you with how fast it cooks up and all the flavor it has. Since I got my air fryer I haven’t cooked fish on the stovetop once!
It is just my new favorite way to cook fish!
What is White Fish?
Whitefish is a term used for several species of fish. Some of these fish include Atlantic cod, whiting, haddock, hake, pollock, and others.
My favorite white is the Atlantic cod or the whiting. I also enjoy the others in this group when I have them on hand but it is harder to find these fish when you are far inland like I am unless you go with frozen.
Any of these fish will work for this recipe. The only thing that might vary would be the cooking times and which will be determined by how thick your fillets are.
Can I Use Another Type of Fish?
Of course, you can use any type of fish you’d like with this easy dinner recipe. If whitefish is not available in your area or you just prefer salmon or catfish, then by all means use one of those.
You can also use tilapia for this recipe as well if you would like. It is easily found in most grocery stores in their seafood department or the frozen food section. Do your research on which fish will work best for your tastes!
I know that this is a fish that many are opposed to and for good reason, but again recipes are meant to be adapted to our needs and tastes so feel free to use it if needed.

How To Cook Cajun Spiced Fish In The Air Fryer
I like to work with the never frozen fillets that I can get at my local grocery store but I can’t always get those so I’ve also used frozen fillets in this recipe as well.
The only extra step you’ll have if starting with frozen is to make sure the fish is completely thawed first before you season and cook it.
To prepare your fish for the Air Fryer simply pat it dry with a clean paper towel and pat it dry. This is especially important if you are using thawed fish.
Once dry drizzle with a little oil and sprinkle the cajun seasoning oh generously. Do this on both sides then place them in the air fryer.
My air fryer is one of those bigger oven-type air fryers so I have three trays that I lay the fist on to cook. I don’t have to preheat my air fryer, but if your air fryer needs to preheat make sure you add time for that.
I use the grill function on my air fryer, which on my air fryer is 360 degrees, so if you are using a smaller basket-type air fryer simply preheat your air fryer to 360 degrees.
The important thing with cooking fish is to avoid overcooking it. I’m not a fan of dry overcooked fish, and I’m not alone, so for this recipe keep in mind that the thin whitefish filets cook quickly.
I cooked my fish for about 9 minutes and then they were perfect. However, if you are using a thicker filet of fish then of course add a minute or two to your cooking time.
If you are unsure of how to know if the fish is cooked thoroughly then keep reading the next section as we talk more about this.

How Can I Tell If The Fish Is Cooked Correctly?
Fish filets should be nice and opaque when it is cooked completely, not translucent like when they are raw.
When fish is cooked perfectly it will break easily into flakes when you use a fork. If you have thicker filets you are using for this recipe you may need a couple more minutes in the air fryer to make sure it is cooked fully.
After the cooking time in the recipe card, if your fish is still a little translucent and doesn’t flake apart then you need to add a few more minutes.
Just for reference if you want to make sure your fish is cooked perfectly but not overcooked you can use a meat thermometer.
I use and love this one from Amazon. The recommended safe minimum internal temperature for fish is 145 degrees Fahrenheit, as measured with a food thermometer.
I realize for some this is a little dryer than we like our fish cooked, so you could cook it to your desired temperature just keep that safe temp in mind.
But you can feel free to adjust the cooking time and cook the fish to your desired eternal temperature so that you enjoy this meal as much as I do!
